Meet Pondurance: Tiffany Adler

Pondurance
July 22, 2021

For this month’s employee spotlight, we spoke with Tiffany Adler, our Human Resources Specialist. She moved around through a few different industries before landing in the technology space and has been with Pondurance for over five years.

What led you to your career choice in cybersecurity?

Every move I’ve made in my career was based around the opportunity to learn or try new things. I started out in the insurance industry right out of college and always heard I would end up there. I held quite a few different roles in the insurance field and learned a lot from my experience, but I eventually moved into property management and construction, event management and marketing, and finally the technology industry.

In all the positions I’ve held in each industry, I focused on helping others, making sure others had a voice, representing a brand, and looking out for what is best for the company and the people who worked there. I finally officially made the decision to specialize in human resources (HR) while working at a technology company as an office manager and soon became the HR Manager. With a new understanding of the processes behind a technology business, those who work in the technology industry, and those seeking a future in technology, opened my mind to a window of opportunities for so many and I wanted to be a part of that journey.

I didn’t know anything about cybersecurity until I came to Pondurance. I was intrigued by the opportunity to work for a growing company in such a booming industry. Plus, I always love a challenge and learning new things. I took the leap and my inquisitive mind was intrigued by my coworkers who all shared a passion for cybersecurity. It opened my eyes to what the future holds for everyone and everything involved within the field. The energy and passion at Pondurance are contagious, and I love doing what I do in that type of environment.

What is a typical day like for you?

A little bit of this, a little bit of that. I’ve been with the company for almost five years, and when I started, I was one of the first on the Operations Team, which meant a little accounting, a little project management, a little administrative, and a little HR, among other things! I have had the opportunity to see the company grow and the teams mature, and my role began to focus on HR. Currently, in my role, I focus on performance management, policies and procedures, culture and engagement, onboarding and offboarding, and really the overall employee experience.

What is your proudest accomplishment in your career to date?

I have never been big on focusing on or highlighting my own accomplishments, but I am proud of the fact that I completed my degree while working full time and was able to integrate what I learned with the work that I was doing and vice versa.

What advice have you been given that stuck with you?

“If you are afraid to fail, you are probably going to fail.” — Kobe Bryant.

So take chances and believe in yourself and know that every true strength is gained through struggle.

What advice would you give to others looking to enter the technology field?

Talk to people, ask questions, and network. You never know what you can learn or what opportunities are out there until you do! Expand your education outside of the classroom; almost every school includes technology in its curriculum in some way. If you are interested, get involved in every way you are able. When you’ve got an excellent set of skills, you’re creating the impression that you’re serious about the job.

Anything else you would like to share?

I have an active household with two kids, two mini Australian Shepherds, and two house rabbits. Our family is very involved with basketball, gymnastics, and cheerleading. I am a foster and volunteer for Indiana House Rabbit Society where they rescue, rehabilitate, and find homes for bunnies who have been abandoned.
