For this month’s employee spotlight, we spoke with Sam Weber who joined the marketing team in October of 2020.

What led you to your career choice in cybersecurity marketing?

I’ve always been interested in cybersecurity and the IT space in general. Growing up in a ‘hotbed’ for IT in Northern Virginia, I had the opportunity to be exposed to a variety of managed service companies — mainly in data hosting. I’ve always gravitated towards the marketing side of business. My career began working for digital agencies with a focus on creating websites. When an opportunity came to parlay my skills in marketing, with my interest in cybersecurity, it was the perfect alignment.

What is a typical day like for you?

As a Program Manager, my ‘technical’ job description is to manage our marketing campaigns in accordance with what is happening with the industry. It’s something that I enjoy and it gives me complete visibility to everything the marketing team is executing, which I value. In addition, due to our agile team nature, my responsibilities expand past that of just program management into another bucket. This involves laying out and publishing all of our web assets. My day-to-day is typically split between administrative work in strategy and campaign management, as well as web asset creation. I like constant change of pace, as it gives my day more than one facet.

Along with my role, I am lucky to expand my knowledge with online WordPress courses through Udemy. Pondurance sponsored my training that I am applying to updates for our website.

What is your proudest accomplishment in your career to date?

I’ve had plenty of web project accomplishments that I’m very proud of in my career, but I have to say, I am incredibly proud of the team and processes we have put together here at Pondurance! As a small team, I believe that we have all worked very hard to create engaging events, as well as drive Pondurance’s brand in a very positive direction.

What advice have you been given that stuck with you?

A term my dad always used to use was ‘hitch your wagon to the right people’. In that, he meant to try to surround yourself with people who you can learn from and who will challenge you to get the most out of you. One of my favorite aspects of working at Pondurance has been that everyone here is truly an expert in what they do and I feel as if I’m learning every day.

What advice would you give to others looking to enter the technology field?

Ask questions. The technology field is impossibly vast in terms of the knowledge levels that are out there. One thing I’ve learned is that there is always someone who knows more than you do. I recommend to have an inquisitive mind and really try to understand why things work the way they do.

Anything else you would like to add?

I have really enjoyed working at Pondurance since October. We are always looking for interns and enjoy sharing our industry and passion with others! If you are interested in a marketing internship please reach out to us at marketing@pondurance.com
