On Tuesday, February 24, Pondurance hosted the 2015 Winter Security Briefing(which can be referenced on Twitter at #pondwsb15), the first of four planned security briefings in 2015 that comprise our Quarterly Security Briefing event series. More than 90 security professionals from the Midwest, and as far away as Denver, packed the Speak Easy in Indianapolis to collaborate on the topic of Vulnerability Management: Operationalizing the Process.
The briefing kicked off with a presentation by Pondurance’s Dustin Hutchison, VP and Executive Manager, related to Addressing Risk and Compliance Requirements associated with Vulnerability Management. Landon Lewis, VP and Executive Manager, delivered the next presentation focusing on Vulnerability Management from a DevOps perspective.
The capstone event presented an all-star panel of some top-name security and compliance leaders from the Indianapolis area. Panelists included:
- Leon Ravenna (VP Security and Compliance, Interactive Intelligence)
- Jeff Hornung (CISO, OneAmerica)
- Tad Stahl (CISO, State of Indiana)
- Stacy Mill (Director of Information Risk, KAR Auction Services, Inc.)
- Traci Mizrahi ( Director IT Compliance and Financial Controls, FULLBEAUTY Brands, Inc.)
I had the honor of facilitating the discussion, which included questions from the audience, but the panelists were the stars of the show. The panelists offered keen insights to an engaged and inquisitive crowd that included lessons learned, do’s-dont’s, and other best practices related to establishing and operationalizing a mature Vulnerability Management Program.
The networking session that followed was also a big hit with event attendees, allowing them the opportunity to collaborate and become acquainted with their peers in the industry. Food and drink (which was awesome!) was provided by 10-01 out of Broad Ripple, and participants continued to discuss Vulnerability Management and other security topics in smaller circles and further engaging with the panelists and other experts in attendance.
Pondurance’s Quarterly Security Briefing event series is a non-sales-driven conference where we provide education and awareness of topical and trending security events to security professionals. The invitation is always open to all industry (i.e., non-vendor) security professionals who desire an opportunity to collaborate and learn without the added pressure of sales and vendor presentations. Pondurance carefully manages the registration process to ensure your contact information remains private, and to ensure a very limited vendor attendance. The format of the briefing centers on a theme (such as Vulnerability Management in this case) and generally includes 2 presentations (one operational or compliance related, and one technical) and a panel of security industry experts (typically pulled from leaders of companies within Indianapolis).
The next Quarterly Series Briefing, dubbed the Pondurance 2015 Spring Security Briefing, is planned for Tuesday, May 19 from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. (including the networking reception). The theme will be announced soon, along with the venue and registration information. If you would like to receive an invitation via email, please provide your contact information to: http://www.pondurance.comcontact/
Thanks, and I hope to see you there!
