For this month’s employee spotlight, we spoke with Dylan Hutchison who has held several positions at Pondurance including helping our customers, working in sales and now on the channel team.

What led you to your career choice in cybersecurity?

I’ve been exposed to cybersecurity my entire life, being able to shadow Dustin Hutchison (our VP of Services and CISO) through his various roles in the field. Very early on, I wanted to pursue Penetration Testing and various compliance frameworks. However, after taking a few business courses in high-school and college, I chose to switch to the sales side of the house where I can be more business focused while still being in tune with cybersecurity.

What is a typical day like for you as a Channel Account Manager?

The great part about being a Channel Account Manager is that no day is the same. From the number of calls to contracts, prospecting, events, networking, etc. — we are always doing something new and that’s why I love it. We are consistently working with our partners to provide holistic service offerings to their clients of all shapes and sizes.

What is your proudest accomplishment in your career to date?

As cheesy as it sounds, my proudest accomplishment is still in the works. I’m most proud of the partner relationships that I have developed over the past few years, and the many more to come in the future.

What advice have you been given that stuck with you?

There are countless pieces of advice that I’ve received during my time at Pondurance, but one piece that has pushed me in the direction I have gone is advice from Ron Pelletier and Mike Childs, “Sales is not just about having a great product/service/solution, it is about the relationships that you hold. You don’t want to just be ‘another sales guy’ but a trusted advisor.” That holds true with how I form my partnerships and relationships today. At the end of the day, we want to provide our clients with the best value.

What advice would you give to others looking to enter the technology field?

Network, Network, Network. Research groups, organizations, pages, etc. that allow for collaboration and conversation between the members/peers. Regardless of the industry, you will meet some fantastic people through these groups.

Anything else you would like to add?

A huge thank you to not only everyone at Pondurance, but also to those who have helped me get to where I am today. I look forward to working with you all more in the future, and to those I do not know yet, I look forward to meeting you.
